Life in Norway Show Episode #75: Originally from Essex, England, Trevor Rulton tells us his story of retiring to Northern Norway after decades of living all over the world.
One of the most common questions I receive at Life in Norway is about retirement, specifically the idea of moving to Norway to retire.
Now, while at the moment I plan to retire here, that’s not the same thing as moving here when already retired. I always thought that was a difficult thing to do, but a Life in Norway reader recently got in touch to share their story.
Not only have they managed to retire to Norway, but they’ve retired to a remote part of Northern Norway. I immediately invited them on to the show to find out more.
In today’s show I talk to Trevor Rulton about the benefits of challenges of living in a remote area, what everyday life is like, the admin process of moving to Norway, and lots more.

Thanks for this, and for all the content you post. Your site is fabulous and is a huge help to me in so many ways. I read everything you write.
As for Youtube, I hate it. The whole site has become spammy and horrible. If you are choosing to have less (or nothing!) to do with Youtube, I think that is a great thing. Their parent corporation is evil, so I want nothing to do with them. I have much better ways of hearing your podcasts.
I think maybe his ease of retirement to Norway is very different being a citizen of the EU as opposed to being from the US. I have tried to get information from the visa office in Washington DC about how I could obtain a visa. They had no idea. They suggested I figure it out in Norway. While in Oslo last summer, I contacted the UDI office and was told I had to go to the police station. I contacted them and was told I couldn’t fill out the paperwork in Norway, that I had to do it in the US. So essentially, I went around in a circle. So, I didn’t get anywhere in the end. I need to marry a Viking. Still looking.
